Home is wherever I'm with you.

So happy to home and back to a semi-normal routine this week. I had a lot of fun visiting my hometown of Wyandotte, Michigan which is a part of metro Detroit.

There are many things I love about Virginia. The colors and contrast are amazing, the mountains are breathtaking....but one thing I miss about Michigan is the ground. And by that I mean flat. You can stand on a cleared road and see for miles. As a teen, I remember sitting on my friends' porch and being able to see the Ambassador Bridge. One of my favorite places has always been the railroad tracks.

While I love meeting with different families and getting to know them and capture their personalities and special moments, being with my loved ones always proves to be my favorite. I love sitting at a family barbeque and being able to capture the pure love between all of my favorite people.

Thank you for your continued support throughout my photography voyage. :) As most of you know, it is very new... but I love it, I really feel like I have found a piece of myself that was missing for a long time.

Family fun.

I especially love blog updates right now since I am on editing overload! These are from some of the galleries I am working on this week. Two more sessions, one newborn that I am especially excited to meet, and then I am off to my hometown for a small break. (Hurray! My first time away from home solo since my son was born - he is now 13 months. I think that says enough. LOL.)

So, back on track -

So. many. cuties!

These twins were so cute and their parents were so much fun to work with. We met within their community and played in an open field next to their clubhouse and playground. I love doing home based sessions; I really feel they add so much personal meaning. A little bit of green space can work wonders.

This family was so adorable, and growing quickly!  These two boys were so much fun and mommy is expecting number three. We managed to take full advantage of their session - family fun, and of course some beautiful maternity shots. :)

I love natural light. :)

Keep your eyes peeled for my upcoming sessions!

Seriously....

Do you have baby fever yet?

 No?

What about now?

.....Really?

Quit lying to yourself.

Hello? World? ARE YOU OUT THERE?!

O. M. G.

After two long weeks without internet at the new house I have finally found local wifi.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Okay,  I wasn't completely going through withdrawals. I was able to use my iphone and facebook mobile. However, my photography needs were not being met and I am glad that stage of our transition is over.

So, hello world! Let's recapture some of the very special sessions I have done in these last two weeks.

Meet Alexa. Her family is from South Africa, where they will be returning to this week. They were amazing to work with and although a little camera shy, Alexa was too cute and even got an impromptu icecream to help her stay cool in the 100 degree heat. She was a trooper!

Last Saturday I met with baby Maddox who I completely fell in love with. His parents call him Maddox Moo which is so adorable, and he has the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen. I can't wait to meet with them again!

The heat and rain have caused for some session rescheduling, but I will be back soon!

Lake Monticello, here we come!

Most photography sessions have been put on hold since my family and I are making our official move to Lake Monticello this weekend.

For those of you who aren't familiar, this is a private gated community about 25 minutes East of Charlottesville. It offers beautiful landscaping and serene beaches which is a photographer's dream.

Do you live in that area? I will extend you all a special offer soon!

July is becoming quickly booked and I *cannot* wait to get things rolling again.

While you are all anxiously awaiting my updates, go ahead and check out Mike and Ena's maternity session we did in Richmond earlier this month.

They were truly so much fun to work with. We did some more traditional frame-and-send-to-mom shots as well as some creative fun ones! These two have so much personality and it really shows - mustaches and all. :)

Welcome to Kristan Whitlow Photography!

Hello everyone! This is my first blog post, although the first of many to come. I do love to write, especially journal, although this will be outlined to capture my real passion - photography.

Specifically natural light photography. I love working outdoors, I love angles and aperture, but I mostly think that light is beauty.

I love nature. I love color. I love contrast. I love mountains.

And bees. :) <--- random fun fact.

Although, most of all...I love portrait photography.

We are past the days of boring studios, staged family photos, and washed out backdrops.

Isn't this so much more fun?!

Don't you want your style to shine?

And let's face it, this is absolutely adorable.
